Salt Lake City · Open to software roles

I'm Ali Hassoun. I find out why production software breaks, and I build the fix.

I'm a Computer Science graduate from the University of Utah. By day I do escalation engineering on dealership management software, where I write the SQL that repairs customers' financial records and trace defects back to the line of code that caused them. On my own time I ship full-stack apps, including a production P&L platform I built solo in two weeks.

154
production data fixes shipped in one quarter, across 101 customer databases
580
production SQL scripts reviewed as an approver, with a median turnaround of 6 minutes
217
Jira defects and enhancements filed, 5 of them P1, with root causes traced to the code

Things I've built, end to end.

Each of these was designed, built and deployed by me unless it says otherwise. Most of them run against real data.

Dough

A P&L and operations platform for The Dough Show, a restaurant in Orlando. It pulls sales and labor from the Toast POS, bank activity from Plaid, and bank-alert emails from Microsoft 365. It turns all of that into a live dashboard and an accrual P&L the owner can trust.

The demo runs on sample data.

  • Accrual P&L with real payout-fee reconciliation
  • Server-side rules engine that auto-categorizes bank transactions and supports split transactions
  • Plaid bank feeds that handle the pending-to-posted lifecycle and webhooks
  • Security by design. Bank tokens are AES-256-GCM encrypted at rest, and the build fails if a client component ever imports the Toast API client.
  • Cash-drawer reconciliation, a full audit trail, and roles and permissions. Ready for multiple stores.
  • A drag-and-drop dashboard of live sales and labor insights
  • Next.js 16
  • React 19
  • TypeScript
  • PostgreSQL
  • Prisma
  • Auth.js
  • Railway
  • Toast API
  • Plaid

Axlen: an OEM car-parts finder

You pick a vehicle and click the part you need on an interactive diagram. Axlen gives you the exact OEM part number and live listings sorted by price.

  • A resumable crawler builds an OEM parts catalog across 19 brands, model years 2015 and up. It respects robots.txt and stores data in SQLite.
  • An adaptive, network-wide rate limiter tuned from measurements. It backs off differently for 403s, 5xx errors and local network faults, and was load-tested at 3.0, 3.25 and 3.5-second gaps before settling on the best one.
  • A Python web app with a clickable 3D car, catalog diagrams, and live eBay listings that also check part-number supersessions
  • A watchdog restarts crawlers automatically, and an interrupted write rolls back cleanly
  • Python
  • SQLite
  • eBay API
  • JavaScript
  • Bash

Maps Leads: finding businesses with no website

This is how I find clients for Hassoun Studio. It sweeps a 25-mile radius on Google Maps for local businesses with no real website, then checks each one against the web.

  • Splits the map into a grid of rectangles. A free ID-only probe counts each cell first, and cells that hit the 60-result cap split into four before any paid call is made.
  • Every response is cached with a 30-day TTL. Quota errors stop the run cleanly. It handled 750+ leads while staying inside the free API tier.
  • A verifier uses domain guessing and the Brave Search API. It confirms a site only when the business's phone number appears on a page whose domain matches the business name, and it rejects directory sites.
  • Python
  • Google Places API
  • Brave Search API
  • CSV pipelines

Production engineering · Lightspeed DMS

What I do when real money is on the line.

Lightspeed DMS runs the sales, parts, service and accounting for thousands of powersports, marine and RV dealerships. When their data or the software goes wrong, the case comes to me. I was promoted twice in my first year, and I'm now the Technical Account Manager for several large enterprise customers as well.

500+
dealers (1,000+ locations) hit by a P1 inventory defect. I diagnosed it, led the incident response, and brought the bad records to zero.
~3,000
production databases scanned in read-only fleet-wide censuses. They turn anecdotes into counted defects that Development can prioritize.
85+
runs of my pre-approved fix scripts by other agents across 80+ dealers, plus one overnight cleanup across 470 dealerships
~5,000
fix-script runs in about 40 minutes with the Mass Update Runner I built to replace a Selenium tool
~270
release-candidate tests run in 4 parallel lanes. They caught regressions before release, one of which affected 116 stores.
12
production incidents worked in one quarter. I called 6 of them myself, including a revenue-affecting outage at a 52-store enterprise.

Root causes I've traced

  • Parts over-receivingI bisected builds (2026.03 and .04 good, .06 bad) to find the regressing commit. Then I fixed every affected dealer and wrote the customer messaging.
  • Deal re-key corruptionTraced to an earlier fix that had a side effect. I delivered a repro video, a version matrix, and an adversarial check of the new fix.
  • Rental charges doublingA sign flip doubled month-end charges every month. I reproduced it and filed it with the exact code path.
  • Slow invoice recallA cache entry was never repopulated. I proved it from 139 server log samples across 8 companies.
  • Intermittent client shutdownsA three-week mystery. I wrote PowerShell network probes that collected about 800K samples per machine, and they pinned the cause on a misconfigured IPv6 stack on the customer's domain controller.

How I change production data

Every write follows the same five steps, on PostgreSQL databases up to 245 GB with tables of 60M rows:

  • Prove it on a sandbox copy of that customer's database
  • Back up the exact rows being changed
  • Bind the rollback to those exact ids
  • Guard against running twice
  • Submit it for approval and log it on the case

Tools I built for the team

  • Mass Update Runner. It runs approved fixes across many databases through the platform API. It does a dry run by default, requires a typed confirmation to go live, locks each dealer, and detects partial failures.
  • Custom Report Builder. An offline HTML app that mirrors the product's report designer and exports files that import straight into it. I backed it with a catalog of 352 report data sets.
  • Schema-aware SQL editor. It autocompletes and suggests joins from a reference covering 590 tables and 17,876 columns.
  • Browser automation in Node.js, Playwright and CDP for the internal platform, Salesforce and the contact center

“Found the possible cause behind a ton of different CRs that were major call drivers in Support… his work has lit a torch we can follow.”

A colleague at Lightspeed DMS, Dec 2025

“Highly analytical… identifying root causes, documenting findings clearly, collaborating closely with both Development and Engineering.”
